"Our Plight"

Back to: Home Page

We believe that, concomitant with our declining economy and the increasing impact which welfare needs will make on donors given, for example, the impending catastrophe of Aids, fund-raising will become increasingly difficult. Some of our biggest corporations such as Anglo, SA Breweries and Old Mutual have already opted to compete on overseas stock exchanges in order to ensure their economic well-being. We must understand that many donors who may previously have been well disposed to assisting welfare are now, themselves, having to contend with their own diminishing resources.

Increased Fees:

Parents and guardians are faced with the increasing responsibility for the cost of keeping their dependents at Sunfield, especially if they can not or are unable to become involved in other options of trying to meet shortfalls such as fund-raising and projects.

Reduced Standards:

If we are to maintain our standards, we will simply have to pay for them. If not, we will simply have to do with fewer staff which will mean either that residents will not enjoy the care taken of them such as is presently the case, or that more parents and guardians will have to render more voluntary service to the home, (therein lies a problem as most parents and guardians live elsewhere in the country). The lowering of standards is a strategy, which is strongly advocated by the Department of Welfare as a means of coping realistically with diminishing resources, but one which is not supported by the Sunfield community.

Fund-Raising:

Many different forms of fund-raising are already being used to help raise much needed funds for the Home.

Please read "Our Plea" to see how YOU can make a difference to the residents of Sunfield Home too.

Residents maintain the grounds entirely by themselves to reduce costs.
